The 'Rose and Crown’ is owned and managed by Ben Johnson, who was brought up in Great Waltham. At the 'Rose' we take pride in being a genuinely independent locally owned pub, with several of our well-known senior staff having worked at the pub for ten years or more. As many of our customers say, it’s a ‘proper’ pub.

We offer a warm, friendly welcome, traditional ales including the local 'Bishop Nick' beers, a log burner for the winter and a varied menu with traditional country products, fresh seafood, the usual pub favourites, plus our expanding vegetarian and vegan options..
There is a separate takeaway menu, along with our in-house or takeaway all-week breakfast menu, plus on Sundays, our popular roasts, along with ‘Specials’ of the day.. We welcome well behaved dogs in the bar area, but not in our restaurant dining areas, unless they are support dogs.

This has added to all the improvements we've made over the past few years - re-tiling of the roof, car park re-surfacing, lighting, and fencing, outside decking and seating overlooking the stream, new ladies and gents facilities, seating and upholstery, carpets and flooring, radiators, window blinds, air conditioning in the restaurant, a re-furbished dining area in the Snug, plus conversion of the former office extension into a further, more private, dining area. Behind the scenes, we’ve had a major re-fit of the kitchen, as well as installing a more energy efficient and environmentally friendly, cellar cooling unit.. With our pub signs and outside lighting as well, we're easy to find in Chelmsford Road, Great Waltham.
