Once known as Little Walton and rising 150 feet above the surrounding area, Bamber Bridge has been the scene of many battles throughout history.
Most famous of all, a great battle was fought in 1648 between the Duke of Hamilton and the Parliamentarians, led by Oliver Cromwell.
