The George and Dragon is a traditional family country pub located in the heart of the picturesque and historic village of Wentworth, South Yorkshire and has been serving the local community as an inn since 1804. The village history dates back to 1066, when according to the Doomsday Book, Rynold Wynterwade was lord of the manor.
Later in 1250 Robert Wentworth married Emma Woodhouse, beginning the Wentworth-Woodhouse line which ultimately led to the construction of Wentworth Woodhouse, the largest privately owned house in Europe and for which the village is well known.
With the house now open, Holy Trinity Church, numerous follies and the Wentworth Garden Centre & Historic Walled Gardens open to visit, the village is a truly hidden gem. A destination in its own right, and a walker’s paradise, why not make the George & dragon a central part to your visit.
Only two miles from Junction 35 of the M1 and within easy reach of the commercial centres of South and West Yorkshire The George & Dragon Wentworth is a great place to visit for a day out or relaxed evening drink or meal in a congenial environment.
Your hosts Sarah & Mick look forward to your visit.
