Unwind in first class comfort and experience a timeless world of decadence.
Keeping the vibrant spirit of the 1800s alive.
Built in 1893, The Centurion was originally a luxurious waiting lounge for first-class passengers travelling through Newcastle. Fast forward 130 years and this former travellers’ rest is now a centrepiece of Newcastle folklore.
Following its acquisition by the British Transport Police in the 1960s, this revered lounge became a collection of prison cells and suffered years of neglect and damage.
When the opportunity arose to acquire the building at the turn of the millennium, we did not hesitate and immediately took to restoring the timeless beauty and charm of this celebrated building. A full-scale restoration project ensued, taking immense care to painstakingly reinstate every remarkable detail.
Today, we are so proud to open The Centurion’s doors to the people of Newcastle and beyond. Whether you choose to enjoy a drink with others or head to one of our lavish private lounges, we are sure you will find your place at The Centurion.
Cheers to that.
