For many years, The Princess has fed and watered weary travellers moving between Bradford & Leeds. Staying true to our long history we have created a menu that focuses on providing guests with authentic, deeply satisfying meals that go perfectly with a pint of real ale (or two!).
The original signage showed Princess Alexandra of Denmark who married the, then, Prince of Wales in 1863. The brewery that owned the pub showed no records earlier than 1868 and the building is older having been built in 1826.
However, there is a local tradition that it may have been originally named after Princess Victoria of Kent (later Queen). Hitching rings for horses are still to be seen on the exterior wall to Back Lombard Street. There were alterations in the 1930s when it belonged to Stretton's Brewery of Derby, (who sold to Ind Coope Ltd, in 1954, subsequently Tetley's) but it has still preserved its character.
Now Fast forward to 2019, under new management, staff & a new brewery (Star Pubs & Bars, Heineken) The Princess has had a complete make over, inside and out, the pub still keeps the Cosy and welcoming feeling.
As well as having a modern new look, its wonderful secret back garden and outside eating makes The Princess the place to be.
