About The Keppel's Head:
It was build in 1779 after a fire destroyed several properties in the immediate area, and was given a very topical name.
Keppel was a popular man several inns used his image on their sign and, in the case of this one, it has survived to this day.
The Keppel’s Head remained popular with naval men to the extent that when there was another here in 1803, officers and midshipmen paid for its reconstruction.
They also called it affectionately “The Nut”.
