About The Old Gate Inn:

Dating back to 1728, the inn was built near the Toll Gate and was originally known as the Sign of the Gate.

The first landlord was Richard Howard, who also collected the tolls and was a trained tallow chandler (maker of candles).

In 1781 the Old Gate Inn became a coaching house where travellers could rest for a night.

Our menus are full of hearty favourites and country pub classics, as well as our seasonal spring dishes, and we’ll be ready with a well-stocked bar, including cask ales, fine wines and British gin to suit very taste - which will taste all the better when enjoyed either in our beautiful gardens or by our crackling log fires.

We look forward to welcoming you!
